Hartenbos Sunrise Family Portraits with the Gagiano family

Sunrise family portrait session at Hartenbos Beach during a family Spring holiday in the Garden Route.

A sunrise family photo shoot in Hartenbos with the Gagiano family during their spring holiday in the Garden Route. I love shooting at sunrise because the light is so soft and beautiful. It's also a great time to shoot because there are fewer people around, so we can get some really unique and personal shots.

We met at Hartenbos Beach just before sunrise and we started by taking some photos of the family together on the beach area. After we got some great shots of the everyone together, we started taking some individual and couple portraits from before the sun rose right up to the moment the sun broke through on the horizon. The family was so much fun to work with, and they were up for anything, even running into the cold, shallow water for a few shots!

I love the way these shots turned out, and I think they really capture the feeling of a perfect vacation morning.

Here are some tips for planning your sunrise family portrait shoot in the Garden Route:

  • Choose a location that has a beautiful sunrise view.

  • Arrive early so that you have time to set up and get everyone ready before the sun rises.

  • Dress in comfortable clothes and choose a colour from a palette that brings al the colours together.

  • Bring a blanket or towel to sit on if you want to take any seated shots.

  • Be prepared for the cold! It can be chilly at sunrise, even in the summer.

  • Have fun! Sunrise family portrait sessions are a great way to capture the memories of your vacation.
